Commercial Buildings
Numerous Commercial Buildings can be constructed using Logs, Timber Frame and Post & Beam building principles.
Over the years we have designed and built many bespoke wooden structures for applications such as College Classrooms to Health Centres and Children’s Nurseries. With our in house computer aided design software we can create the ideal building for your project and can manage your project from start to finish.

This specification was for two Music Classrooms, a large Clearspan Hall for concerts and activities, a Kitchen and Toilets.
Being a School building there were very stringent regulations to follow including Sound Transmission between rooms and special Noise Reduction Measures were taken throughout the building.

When the Saltfleetby Fisheries in Lincolnshire were looking to replace their old tackle shop and to offer a seated dining area for their customers they decided on a Log Cabin style building for their new project. Initially, for planning reasons it was intended to base the café on a Mobile Home design.

The design for our Mobo range offers the flexibility to also be used as a permanent building as it meets both Mobile Home and permanent building regulations. The large open area with high pitched ceilings makes a convivial dining area for the Fisheries customers.

The Ark Nursery is a thriving childrens' nursery in Stamford, Lincolnshire. When they needed a new building in which to expand they chose a log construction because of its economical build costs and great looks.

A custom log building based on a Jorntrahus bungalow design had to conform to the rigorous regulations for a nursery. A local builder constructed the nursery.

The project came in on time and on budget in 2008, and now the Ark Nursery is thronged with happy children every day.

Health Centres

The Fellowship of St Nicholas is a charity operating in St Leonards near Hastings which performs important work in the local community. As a charity every penny has to be spent carefully to get the maximum benefit. So when the Fellowship decided to build a new Children's Centre in St Leonards they picked a solid log construction from Jorntrahus.

The Fellowship grounds in St Leonards are located on a steep hill surrounded by Victorian four storey town houses. It was important that the new building not be visually intrusive and out of character with the surrounding area. An innovative design was devised for a square 200 square metre single storey building with a hipped roof cut into the hillside. From the adjacent street the cabin is barely visible yet inside it is spacious with a high ceiling following the roof line.

Inside the Children's Centre is laid out with a reception, two general purpose rooms, a large hall area with attached kitchen, and two discussion/examination rooms. The building is intensively used by both voluntary organisations and the local Health Trust to conduct activities such as childbirth classes, child and mother health checks, and a childrens creche.

When Jeff Remington started Windsor and Maidenhead Sauna Pool and Spa on the site of Squires Garden Centre in Windsor he intended to sell only the very best quality products from Villeroy and Boch. To go with his upmarket product range he needed an upmarket showroom to sell from.

That is why he turned to Jorntrahus. Not only did he know he would get a top quality product, but he knew that the design service from Jorntrahus could produce an innovative custom design for his log cabin showroom and maximise the useful area in his very unusually shaped site footprint.

The result is a striking eight sided building with a composite metal roof laid at an angle to the walls, and a huge five metre opening with bi-fold sliding doors.

One of the principle design requirements of this project was to maximise the useful space on the plot which required the building to have eight sides and for two of the walls to be angled at 45 degrees. A further requirement was for an almost flat roof with up to an eight metre span.
It was decided that the most effective structure would be for 90mm glue laminated beams at 1 metre intervals to lay at an angle relative to the walls of the showroom to support a composite steel "Trisomet" roof from Corus. The Trisomet roof contains 100mm of insulation and would meet building regulations without the need for a ceiling in the showroom. The weight of the Trisomet roof is considerable hence the need for very strong purlins.

Another design requirement was for a very wide opening to allow for stock to be moved in and out. It was decided the most attractive and cost effective solution was to install aluminium bi-fold sliding doors which were supplied by Connaught of Bournmouth.Windsor and Maidenhead Sauna Pool and Spa are now open for business at Squires Garden Centre, The Willows, Maidenhead Rd, Windsor, SL4 5UB Tel 07980 540525
